Question by heyheysg: What’s the point of using large chips in World Series Poker?
I just watched a bit on tv, they were betting millions, up to 25 million for all.
But the 1st place winner only gets 1.9 million? and the 2nd/3rd places also get cash prizes?
So how does that work, why use 25 million in chips if 25,000 will work equally as well?

In many events these days there are a massive number of participants and they each start with $ 20,000 in the main event, for example. The deep stack relative to the small blinds makes for a slower and longer tournament. But of course once you get down to the final table and thousands of players have been eliminated each player could have millions in chips.
If you went with your idea people would start with so few chips the blinds would have to be a fraction of a dollar to be in the same proportion.
