Question by Amora T: What is this Insurance which Phil Hellmuth always talks about in HSP or PAD?
Everytime the Poker brat is all in he wants insurance? How does it work? How is it calculated?
@jackAce, So Let’s say, I want to insure PH’s hand on the 4outs scenario, I am putting $ 90,000 on the line to win $ 10,000 due to the 9:1 odds??

Answer by JackAce
He wants to make a side bet on the outcome of the hand. If he ends up losing the hand, he can make some money back.
So if there is $ 100,000 in the pot and he is ahead, but his opponent has 4 outs with one card to come (and both players are all in) there is a 10% chance that he will lose. So someone might give him 9 to 1 odds on the side bet. Phil may choose to put up $ 10,000 on the insurance bet. One of two things will happen:
* His hand will hold up and he will win the hand (+$ 100,000), but he will lose the insurance bet (-$ 10,000). His net outcome will be +$ 90,000.
* His opponent will hit one of his 4 outs and he will lose the hand (+$ 0), but he will win the insurance bet (+$ 90,000). His net outcome will be +$ 90,000.
It doesn’t always work out so the net result is the same for both results. Most of the time, the player who is ahead will make more money when they win. For example, Phil may only put up $ 5k on the insurance bet in the above example.

Question by dave: POKER: do high stakes players cry about the game being fixed when they play online?
(the way players at the low stakes tables do)
also, is there any real reason to think that the integrity of online poker is in question?

Well according to books the most won hand is a single pair, and in online poker you see a lot of bigger hands quite more often. Also, people “seem” to hit runner-runner a lot more. In my personal opinion, online poker isn’t as legit as playing at the casino or home game.
